84-Year Old Former
Fruit Merchant to Be
Buried Here Thursday
Joseph A. Rinella , Sr., 84 former fruit and grocery merchant and
resident of the city for more than 50 years, died at his home at 5 1/2
South Dubuque Street at 3 a.m. today.
Mr. Rinella was born in Italy in 1863 and came to this country at
the age of 21 years, working in the fruit business in Ft. Wayne Indiana,
and later living for a number of years in Dallas, Texas.
After coming to Iowa City, he established the Rinella Fruit Market
and grocery store.
He is survived by five daughters, Mrs. William Hannah, with whom he
lived for the last 22 years, and Mrs. Leo Gorman, both of Iowa City,
Mrs. D. Amici, Orlando, Florida, Mrs. Frank Postero, Atlanta, Georgia,
and Mrs. John E. Kelly, Cedar Rapids; two sons, Anthony J. and Joseph
J.Jr., both of Iowa City; and six grandchildren.
Mr. Rinella's wife and another daughter, Mrs. Harry Coyne,
Davenport, died in 1923.
Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary's
church, with burial in St. Joseph's cemetery. The rosary will be recited
at 7:30 tomorrow evening at the McGovern Funeral Home.
