John Caito

John Caito, 63, died at his home, 516 Third St. SE, where he
operated a fruit and grocery business, at 3:30 a.m. Tuesday following a
heart attack. Born in Sicily, Italy, August 15, 1874, he came to this
country at the age of 18 settling in Burlington. In 1896, he came to
Cedar Rapids to engage in the fruit and grocery business, which he
conducted until his death. He formerly operated a store at the west end
of Second Ave. bridge
In 1902 he was married to Mary Cantanzaro of St. Louis who survives
him. He also leaves two sons, Sando of St. Louis; Sam at home and the
following brothers and sisters; Anthony, Cedar Rapids, August of
Belvedere, Illinois; Mrs. Philip Scolaro, Mrs. A. Dattolo, Mrs. A.
Gatto, all of Cedar Rapids and Mrs. Henry Corso, Iowa City.
Funeral services will be held in the Immaculate Conception Church at
9 a.m. Thursday, conducted by Msgr. John Molloy. Burial will be in Mt.
Calvary Cemetery. The body is at the Monahan Funeral Home where friends
may call and where the rosary will be recited Wednesday at 8 p.m. by
Msgr. Molloy.
